Green plays the role of Artemisia, Achaemenid Queen of Caria and King Xerxes' ally. In the movie, she is among the soldiers who fight in the field. To make sure that the she will be able to keep up with the male actors when it comes to fight scene, the 33-year old French actress enrolled in four-hour training of action stunts.
"I remember telling my mother before I got offered the part, there was 'Gladiator' on TV and I went, 'I want to play a man. I want to play a warrior, not a love interest."
While she was able to handle the fight scenes, one department she failed to prepare for are the sex scenes. She wasn't able to handle such sequences that she got injured out of them.
In an interview with British magazine Shortlist, Green shared what she's been through doing sex scenes with Sullivan Stapleton who plays the role of Themistocles, an Athenian general and politician who orchestrated the battle plans at the Battle of Salamis and the Battle of Artemisia.
"The thing with sex scenes is, I mean, it's not like we're doing all the positions in the Kama Sutra and all that, but we have to make it different. How's it going to be filmed? Is it gratuitous? Is it part of the story? There's lots to consider," she said.
"But that one, pfft, that was sex as a fight. I had bruises all over my body afterwards, and I smacked Sullivan... Oh, you don't need to tell him [to go for it]. He's not scared, he's this big, strong Aussie and he's proud of it. He's a real man. Which made the fact that he had to have the hair on his chest waxed off even funnier.
