James Bond Shakes Things Up in Scotland; Sean Connery Urges Scotland to Leave U.K.; David Bowie Says Stay (Video)

James Bond and the Thin White Duke are battling it out for the future of Scotland. James Bond star Sean Connery is on the side of independence for Scotland. David Bowie made a plea for Scotland to stay in the U.K.

Saying the upcoming vote is an opportunty "too good to miss," Sean Connery urged Scots to choose independence on September's referendum.

On Sunday, the star of "The Lion in Winter" told U.K.'s The Sun that Scotland should separate from the rest of Britain because it would create new jobs. Including movie jobs. Connery says independence would galvanize creative industries.

The star "Goldfinger" and "Dr No" said a vote for independence would bring renewed focus on Scottish culture, heritage and creative excellence.

When Sean Connery was last seen in Scotland, it was 2003 and he said he wasn't coming back until Scotland broke with the rest of the United Kingdom.

Connery says "I fully respect the choice facing Scotland in September is a matter for the people who choose to work and live there -- that's only right. But as a Scot with a lifelong love of Scotland and the arts, I believe the opportunity of independence is too good to miss."

Connery was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, but hasn't lived in the country for years. Connery divides his time between Spain, the Bahamas and New York.

Sean Connery revealed that he rejected a knighthood from Labour in 1997 before he became Sir Sean in 2000.

David Bowie doesn't agree. Major Tom has urged Scottish voters to stay as oart of the United Kingdom. A perennial rock star and an actor himself, David Bowie took his plea to Scottish voters at the Brit Awards, sayng "Scotland, stay with us."
