‘Interstellar’ Movie: Steven Spielberg Was Original Director For Project! Christopher Nolan Defies Paramount's Digital Format Directive!

Visionary director Christopher Nolan's latest project, "Interstellar" was originally picked up by legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg.

The studio released a synopsis (from Cinema Blend):

"Mainly based on the scientific theories and script treatment of renowned theoretical physicist, Kip Thorne. Interstellar is set to be released in November 7, 2014.

Nolan and Emma Thomas are producing with Lynda Obst, and Jordan Goldberg is exec producing. Obst commissioned the original treatment and Steven Spielberg came aboard in 2006, when Paramount owned DreamWorks and after the filmmaker became intrigued by Caltech physicist and relativity expert Kip S. Thorne and his scientific theory that wormholes exist and can be used for time travel. Spielberg set Jonah Nolan to write the script, which made it easy for Christopher Nolan to come aboard after Spielberg left the project. The ambition is that Interstellar will depict a heroic voyage to the farthest borders of our scientific understanding.

The "Dark Knight" director is values secrecy and there's hardly any leaks from the set of his films or his renowned actors. Recently crowned Best Actor Matthew McConaughey headlines this one (could it be two in a row for him like Tom Hanks?) along with Anne Hathaway, Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain and Nolan muse Michael Caine.

Another short synopsis was shared by Den Of Geek, also from the studio:

"The new script chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage."

Meanwhile, Nolan defied the recent directive by Paramount to use the digital format. This was a format they wanted to apply to all their films following Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf Of Wall Street."

While the studio wanted all its movies to adapt the format, the LA Times quoted a statement that they will allow exceptions.

"Although we anticipate the majority of the studio's future releases to be executed in digital formats across the U.S., select exceptions will be made."

Yes, Christopher Nolan is one of the vanguards of film-the art and the format.
