The ninth-seeded Kentucky Wildcats will play vs the second-seeded Michigan Wolverines in the Elite 8 game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Kentucky is coming off defeating its rival - Louisville on Saturday while Michigan took care of business against Tennessee to get to this regional final. Kentucky was looked at as NBA-ready players who weren't playing together as a team and were destined to be out in the second round. Instead, the Wildcats knocked off last year's Final Four team in Wichita State, who was also the top seed in the region. The Wildcats followed that by beating last year's national champions. Sunday, they have a chance to defeat yet another final four team in the Michigan Wolverines, who were actually the runner-ups to Louisville.
"I'm just happy we're playing better right now," Kentucky coach Tom Calipari told ESPN.com. "Because I'm telling you, we almost ran out of runway when we landed the plane. As a matter of fact, the nose of the plane was in grass. But we got down. And if the runway was 25 games instead of 30 games, we probably went off the edge."
He's happy his team is playing the way he said the game is meant to be played.
"The only thing I can tell you is, we just keep moving on," Calipari said. "The best thing about this for me as a coach is, I've continued to coach like it's midseason."
He had to make some changes and he admitted he should have made them much earlier in the season, but they're working.
"I'm going to wait until it's over and I'll go through everything that we did and when I did it," he said. "When you hear what I did, you'll say: 'Makes perfect sense.' And then you're going to ask: 'Why didn't you do it earlier?' And I'm going to tell you: 'I don't know. I should have."
