New "Homeland" season 4 spoilers reveal that Carrie may no longer be heading to Istanbul after the premiere, but instead will tackle the "most volatile and dangerous" part of the Middle East.

"Homeland" creator Alex Gansa previously revealed that Carrie (Claire Danes) would be assigned as a CIA officer in Istanbul, Turkey in season 4. But new spoilers suggest otherwise.

Showtime wouldn't specify where exactly Carrie would work as season 4 is still being mapped out, only saying that she is being "assigned to one of the most volatile and dangerous CIA stations in the Middle East where she is back on the front lines in the war on terror," Deadline reports.

Showtime and Fox 21 announced that "Homeland" will begin production in Cape Town, South Africa this summer. The series will begin production in mid-June and shoot through November of this year.

"We've been so lucky to work with one of the best crews in the business for the last three seasons in Charlotte," Alex Gansa said. "We knew going into season four that we would need to move the production overseas to tell the story of Carrie returning to the Middle East as chief of station. We are thrilled to have found a new home in Cape Town and look forward to getting season four production off the ground."

Entertainment Weekly asked Gansa late last year why he chose Istanbul for "Homeland" season 4.

"Only [Turkey's] proximity to Iran. They share a border, and it would be easier to run Javadi from that location. Also I hear it's a fabulous city to go shoot in," he said.

"There's no question this show is undergoing a major reinvention or reboot for season four," Gansa added.

As we previously reported, the "Homeland" season 4 premiere date may have been leaked by Google. The air date of episode 1 is coming this fall, but now we may have a specific date. When you type "Homeland" into Google, the search engine shows the air date of season 4, episode 1 as October 9, 2014.
