How I Met Your Mom Spinoff Spoilers; How I Met Your Dad Actress Greta Gerwig Promises New Series Will Be Different; Greta Gerwig Cast in New Play

How I Met Your Mom Spinoff Casting: How I Met Your Dad producers are reported to be nervous that the How I Met Your Mom spin-off may be in danger. Greta Gerwig, from the movies "Frances Ha" and "Greenberg," has been saying that the pilot and the series will be different from How I Met Your Mother.

Greta  Gerwig is the "New Ted Mosby" in "How I Met Your Dad," the spin-off show from "How I Met Your Mother."

The new show hasn't been picked up for a premiere season. If CBS does order it to series, it could begin as soon as this fall. The pilot will be shot in Los Angeles, but production will shift to New York for subsequent episodes. New star Greta Gerwig says the spin-off will be "different than the original. How I Met Your Dad will start with a divorce. When the premise of the show is that it's a young man looking for his true love, it's a very different feeling than a young woman looking for her true love. Craig and Carter are making it too, and Emily Spivey is so funny and great. She wrote for SNL for a long time, and wrote the show Up All Night, and I'm in love with her."

Greta Gerwig will next star on Broadway in  Penelope Skinner's "The Village Bike" at the MCC Theater. According to the theater's announcement, Gerwig will play a pregnant, sexually adventurous young wife. Gerwig was cast after Maggie Gyllenhaal dropped out of the role because of scheduling conflicts.

Now that 'How I Met Your Mother' is over, Greta says she was a fan "I loved it so much. ...I wanted [Ted and Robin] to [end up together]! I'm such a schmaltzy person. It's like, yes, I know that Annie Hall is the best ending of all time when they don't end up together. But really, in my heart of heart of hearts ... I love in When Harry Met Sally when they end up together. I'm a little too corny for the sadder version."

The co-creators of the Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are  writing the pilot with Emily Spivey. They promise that How I Met Your Dad is just like How I met Your Mother, except from the female point of view. The spinoff will center on a group of friends living in New York and follow the main character, Sally, and her journey to meeting her future husband.  "Frances Ha" star Greta Gerwig is Sally. Sally is the new Ted, but unlike Ted (Josh Radnor), Sally is already married when we first meet her in the pilot.

According to a CBS press release, Sally is described as a "female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she's going in life. She has just figured out that she has nothing in common with her husband of less than a year, and will find a solid circle of support in her friends and family."

"How I Met Your Dad" is a spin-off of HIMYM, which ended after  a successful run of nine years by revealing to the audience the  elusive "mother." Greta said "Of course I saw it. I was weeping. I just spent the last three weeks with Craig and Carter begging them. They were working on editing while we were working on writing the new show. And I was like, 'You guys, [don't let her die].' Every time they started talking, I put my fingers in my ears."
The cast of the How I Met Your Mother spinoff Greta Gerwig, Drew Tarver, Nick D'Agosto and Andrew Santino.

How I Met Your Dad's pilot, from 20th TV, was written by Emily Spivey and How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. Different reports say either Pam Fryman or Rob Greenberg is directing.
