Samsung Galaxy S5 Active Release Date, Specs: Rumored Handset Confirmed To Get Snapdragon 801, Would It Be Tougher Than The Already Water-Resistant Galaxy S5?

Samsung Galaxy S5 Active release date, specs: Last year, Samsung introduced its 'Active' version for the company's current flagship device. It was the S4 which gained a tougher and more robust version, would the S5 Active get the same treatment as well?

Now that the Samsung K Zoom (Galaxy S5 Zoom) is already out of the way, the Korean tech giant is probably already working double time in order to release its Galaxy S5 mini and S5 Active at least before June ends. And for the Active, it looks like Samsung has not made any compromises when it comes to processing speed.

According to a report by GSM Arena, AnTuTu's benchmarking app has spotted the upcoming Galaxy S5 Active and lists its specs. While these are not yet confirmed, at least we get a heads up as what to expect from this Android powered handset.

In the specs page, the Galaxy S5 Active is reported to get the same Snapdragon 801 chipset of the flagship version. That means both Galaxy S5's would theoretically get the same raw processing speed, which is a big plus for Active fans.

Meanwhile, other specs also tell us that the Galaxy S5 Active could really be mirror image of the flagship edition, at least as far as inside specs are concerned.

The upcoming high-end smartphone is also expected to get a Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 2GB of RAM, a 16MP primary shooter and a 2MP front facing camera. Also on board is the same Adreno 330 GPU, 16GB of internal memory with option for storage expansion through its microSD card slot, and Android 4.4.2 Kitkat out of the box.

So if both high-end Android devices have almost identical specs, where would they differ? The current Samsung flagship is already water resistant, one of the original selling points of the Active line. There could be a more robust or durable build, or a better performance even when submerged in water.

We'll bring you more updates about the Galaxy S5 Active in the coming days.
