Tomodachi Life 3Ds Release Date Update: Nintendo Issues Apology For Not Including Same-Sex Relationships In Game, Promises To Alter Game Like 'The Sims'

Apart from the buzz created by the Tomodachi Life 3DS release date, the famed game is under fire for not including same-sex relationships. While the Tomodachi Life 3DS release date was earlier in Japan, the life simulation game would reach other countries next month.

The Tomodachi Life 3DS game allows dating and marrying but LGBT advocacy group GLAAD slammed Nintendo for its alleged intentional exclusion of gay and lesbian relationships in the game.

The original version of the Tomodachi collection permits male characters to tie the knot and start a family. However, the union of male characters is actually a product of a glitch and not Nintendo's intention. As per Nintendo, female characters were inadvertently dressed in male clothes which gave the impression that same-sex relationships were actually happening,

The gaming giant then says that they will be fixing the glitch which means that same-sex relationships will likewise be removed in the game. In an interview with Venture Beat, Wilson Cruz, the spokesperson of GLAAD, accused Nintendo for its discrimination and even compared it to another famous simulation game, 'The Sims':

"In purposefully limiting players' relationship options, Nintendo is not only sending a hurtful message to many of its fans and consumers by excluding them, but also setting itself way behind the times.

It's been over a decade since The Sims - the original 'whimsical and quirky' life simulator - allowed its users to marry any character they wanted, and many other mainstream and massively popular video games have followed their lead since. Nintendo should do the same."

Due to the backlash that it received, Nintendo apologized but added that they wouldn't be able to change the existing Tomodachi version:

"We apologise for disappointing many people by failing to include same-sex relationships in Tomodachi Life. Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to change this game's design, and such a significant development change can't be accomplished with a post-ship patch.

At Nintendo, dedication has always meant going beyond the games to promote a sense of community, and to share a spirit of fun and joy. We are committed to advancing our long time company values of fun and entertainment for everyone."

Nonetheless, Ninendo assured that it would be reinventing the forthcoming Tomodachi 3DS game: "We pledge that if we create a next instalment in the Tomodachi series, we will strive to design a game-play experience from the ground up that is more inclusive, and better represents all players."
