Sony Xperia Z2 Specs, Release Date: Is Sony's Flagship Missing Out On The Fun In The Competitive Android World?

Sony Xperia Z2 specs, release date: When Sony made its announcement during the MWC in Barcelona about its next flagship, analysts, bloggers, consumers and enthusiasts all expected a high-end device with a gorgeous design. And surely, we were not disapppointed.

The Xperia Z2 looks similar to the Z1, but it is slightly taller and thinner, adding more points to aesthetics. Like previous Sony flagships, the Xperia Z2 also packs a glass back cover that would certainly appeal to fashion and style-centric consumers.

The Android-powered smartphone also pack a 5.2-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution which has become a staple among Android flagships nowadays. The Japanese manufacturer's Triluminous display could still be questionable, but Sony has been improving its technology for years.

Also on board is a 3GB RAM, the latest version of Qualcomm's Snapdragon chipset, 801, and a quad-core CPU that runs on four Krait 400 cores, each clocked at 2.5GHz. These two specs will allow the device to run almost anything you throw at it very smoothly.

On the camera department, Sony prides itself with the 20.7MP G Lens sensor as primary shooter, while there is also a 2.1MP camera in front for selfies. Considering the 20.7MP camera, the Xperia Z2 is probably one of the top Android camera phones there is today.

With all of these specs, and all the glittering spectacles of its sleek design, the Sony Xperia Z2 does not enjoy as much popularity as other flagships such as the HTC One M8 and the Samsung Galaxy S5. To think that both these devices share inferior specs compared to the Z2, anyone would think that something is not right.

For one, Sony chose to offer its devices primarily in Japan and the Europe, especially the United Kingdom where it sells great. However, in that small market area, the Japanese manufacturer still fails to ship the smartphones in time.

To add salt to its wounds, Sony has been doing a lot worse than the already underperforming HTC when it comes to marketing its devices, at least in Europe. Sure, the Xperia Z2 will soon arrive in US soil.

Unfortunately for Sony, when that time comes, most US consumers have already bought high-end Android smartphones which arrived months earlier.
