iPhone 5c release date, price: The plastic-covered iPhone 5c should have been a hit if only for the steep price tag it had at launch. A lot of analysts and experts expected a midrange device with midrange price, but lo and behold Apple said it will not sell 'cheap' smartphones. 

However, several months later and we have read and heard reports that millions of iPhone 5c handsets are accummulating dust in Apple's warehouses in China. In addition, even carriers and retailers offering the device have already cut the iPhone's cost in order to lure more consumers. 

Then, Apple decided to work on an 8GB variant, which would soon arrive in India. 

According to a recent report by GSM Arena, the iPhone 5c 8GB edition will become available in India through authorized Apple stores and retailers, as well as carriers. 

In the report, the plastic-clad iPhone is said to retail about €50 cheaper in India. The 16GB version of the iPhone 5c currently costs 41,900 Rs., while the 8GB edition would be priced at around 35,000 Rs. 

Considering that Apple is becoming a very popular brand in India, the iPhones have equally received enough attention as well. As a result, people are saving up just to get at least a year-old iPhone model.

But once the 8GB iPhone 5c arrives in India, saving up would not be a problem anymore as the Apple smartphone has become cheaper than ever. 

In a statement by Apple CEO Tim Cook, describing the success Apple has been experiencing in India:

"iPhone sales grew by strong double-digits year-over-year, and in India and Vietnam sales more than doubled." 

This is certainly great news for Apple, and soon other emerging markets would be able to get their hands on this 'cheap' iPhone. It would also be a great way to build momentum towards the release of its first iPhone beyond 4 inches.
