Xiaomi Mi3S specs and release date has been speculated even before the May 15 Xiaomi event happened. Many are expecting that the alleged Android 4.4.2 KitKat-powered smartphone with 4G LTE and a Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor will be launched at the said date.

Instead, it was a different item all together that the “Apple of China” announced, namely the Xiaomi MiPad.

In a May 7, 2014 report by CNET it noted that the “leaked specs for the Mi3S point to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, Android KitKat 4.4.2 and LTE, a first for the Chinese company.”

Other expected specs of the Mi3S are a 13-megapixel camera and the quad-core processor clocking in at 2.5GHz.

“If the rumors are to be believed, the next phone will be called the Mi3S -- after its current flagship, the Mi3 -- and it will have 4G LTE connectivity for both China and the other Asian markets where the company is currently active,” the CNET report said.

The alleged Xiaomi Mi3S is supposed to be a refreshed model of the current Mi3. The Mi3S is different from yet another predicted Xiaomi handset called the Xiaomi Mi4, which could well be a new Android flagship that the company will release very soon.

The May 15 event has come and gone and despite the Xiaomi launch and announcement not including a Mi3S, it’s very possible that the company will be launching yet another device very soon.

Xiaomi aims to sell 40 million devices for the year 2014 and to be able to achieve that, it will require more models to be made available in the market. The Chinese tech giant has earlier announced that it will be entering ten more international markets this year.

A homegrown company, Xiaomi is called the “Apple of China” for its innovative handsets and foothold in the local tech industry. It currently counts 20 million subscribers to its customized mobile OS platform.
