Microsoft Surface Mini Release Date Tipped To Fall Next Week, Are We Going To See The Surface Pro 3 Or A Rehashed Pro 2?

Microsoft Surface mini release date: After a successful BUILD conference more than a month ago where it launched the new version of the Windows Phone, Microsoft wants to bank on the momentum and launch new WP slates next week.

According to a report by BGR as well as some tech websites, the Redmond giant is going to unveil the first 'mini' version of its Surface tablets.

While there has not been any exact Microsoft Surface mini release date details coming from the company itself, some teaser images tell us that it will indeed make an exciting announcement in a press event next week.

Rumors point out that the upcoming Microsoft tablet will be powered by the underwhelming Windows RT version. However, we better not count the Surface mini out right away. Windows RT may be one of the less successful of Microsoft's platforms, but it may perform well in a smaller tablet compared to the Surface RT which launched a long while back.

In addition to the Surface mini, reports from Bloomberg and CNET are also pointing to a possible Surface Pro 3 announcement. Indeed, we may not be getting as much details or rumors about the upcoming tablet, but its release is certainly inevitable, especially that Microsoft wants to claw its way back to the top, this time in the mobile world.

But aside from the new generation Surface Pro, there are also reports that Microsoft could be working on an improved Surface Pro 2 tablet. The new Pro 2 slate is tipped to get a fresher version of Intel's super power efficient Haswell chip. Earlier this year, Apple released a new batch of MacBook Airs which have the same variant of the Intel chip, so it could certainly be a possibility that Microsoft will move in the same direction as well.

Microsoft's press event will be on May 20, so we'll stay tuned and bring you all the latest details.
