Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 Review: Specs Of Android Smartphone Incl. 4-inch Display, 4GB Storage, Dual-Core Processor; $183 Handset Delivers Real Value?

Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 review: The dual-core 4-inch Android handset Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 is targeted to the lower end of the market and sports decent features like a 4GB internal storage and a dual-core processor.

Priced at $183, the device is deemed to deliver real value and comes with a dual-SIM setting that’s famous in emerging markets. It has a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and a WVGA (480 x 800) TFT display. It also runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with a TouchWiz UI on top.

The Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 has a 5 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and also includes a VGA front-facing camera. The smartphone comes with 768 MB of RAM and 4GB of storage, which can be expanded to 64GB via a microSD card.

Connectivity options for the smartphone include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, EDGE, GPRS and 3G. The device is packed with a 1500mAh battery, which Samsung claims can deliver up to 8 hours of talktime and up to 280 hours of standby time. The Galaxy S Duos 2’s dimensions are 121.5x63.1x10.57mm and it weighs 118 grams.

The Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 comes with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box and is primarily available in emerging markets.

A comment at FoneArena noted that the Duos 2 is the “best budget phone ‘till now” and continues to say that it defeats the Lumia in specs except touchscree and camera.

As a budget handset, key competitors of Samsung include the Moto G and Moto E, both of which are below the $200 range. There are also a number of Windows Phone-powered devices vying for the lower-end of the market and they include the newly launched Nokia Lumia 630 and the Nokia Lumia 525.

Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 was made available in December 2013 in India and comes in ten languages – Hindi, Bengali, Punjabi, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Telegu, Tamil, and Assamese.
