Nexus 6 Release Date Not Coming, Android Silver Replacing Google Lineup, Tipped For February 2015 Launch

Nexus 6 release date: If you are one of the hopefuls that the Nexus 5 will still have a successor, then you may be waiting in vain. While there have been previous reports earlier this year that Google may still be releasing a last version of the Nexus smartphone and tablet, a new leak says otherwise.

According to a report by Android Authority, notorious and reliable leakster EV Leaks has gotten hold of information that tells us that the search giant will not push through with another Nexus smartphone, and instead shift to Android Silver which was tipped to be launched some time in February next year.

In a tweet by EV Leaks, it says that 'There is no Nexus 6. Farewell, Nexus.' However, it followed up with another tweet saying 'Don't worry, there's a silver lining to this cloud....' hinting that the new pure-Google breed of smartphones dubbed Android Silver would take its place.

A couple of weeks ago, Google announced Android Silver, a new version of smartphones that would enable consumers to have more options and not just one Nexus device every year.

To put it simply, it means that more than a single manufacturer would be able to work on an Android Silver smartphone at any given time throughout the year. For the past couple of years, it has been LG that has been working with Google in both the Nexus 4 and 5, while Asus and Samsung have worked with the Nexus 7 and 10 respectively.

Once Android Silver gets launched, there would be more options, tighter competition among OEMs, and a much happier Android market.

Launched several years ago, the Nexus line has been the Android platform's oldest running lineup of devices, but all good things come to and end. Though we are expecting better things ahead for the world's most popular mobile platform.
