Flappy Bird Return Date To Google Play And Apple Store Set; New Multi-Player Version Less Addictive Than Predecessor?

The Flappy Bird return date to Google Play and Apple Store is reportedly a few months from now but its creator gave due warning: the new multiplayer version is going to be less addictive than its predecessor.

Kelly Evans of CNBC tweeted: "Flappy Bird's Dong Nguyen: Flappy Bird is coming back. Multiplayer. August."

According to the Guardian Liberty Voice, the Flappy Bird return date will probably be in August based on its sources' claims. The game-reportedly called Flappy Bird 2.0-will be rebooted to include a new multiplayer app.

The game's developer, Dong Nguyen, was reportedly earning as much as $50,000 a day in the original app but he yanked it out of the Google Play and App Store after a 22-hour notice, and seemingly without reason at least initially.

Later on, he revealed that he was worried about the addictive nature of the original Flappy Bird, which was the top downloaded app in 100 countries.

Now, with the announcement of the Flappy Bird return date, the developer also gave fair warning, it will be less addictive than the first one, which prompted Alex Riviello of gamenguide.com to write in desperation:

"Of course, pretty much the only reason anyone played his silly game in the first place is its addictive nature," he said. "What brought you back was the futility of it all, trying over and over to get through these green pipes. Why? For a mesely high score? Why do we do it? Why, why?!?"

The Guardian's Douglas Cobb, however, is optimistic that the new Flappy Bird will have a good following although the developer has not revealed whether the new app's multiplayer mode will be competitive in nature or cooperative.

"It's bound to attract not only all of the original fans of Flappy Bird, but also new fans, especially as it will have a multiplayer capability," he wrote.
