Martin Lawrence Returns to TV After 20 Years; Martin Lawrence Will Star With Kelsey Grammer on `Partners’

Martin Lawrence is returning to television for the first time in almost 20 years. The new Martin Lawrence starrer "Partners" will premiere on Aug. 4.

FX announced that Martin Lawrence and Kelsey Grammer will star in the new comedy series "Partners" that is set to premiere on Monday, August 4.

This is the first time the two huge comic actors Martin Lawrence and Kelsey Grammer have played together on the screen. On any screen, big or small.

In "Partners," Martin Lawrence and Kelsey Grammer will play two Chicago lawyers from extremely different backgrounds who meet in court and become friends and partners.

Lawrence, who starred in "Bad Boys" with Will Smith and the film "Big Momma" is famous for his long-running TV show "Martin".  Kelsey Grammer is famous for his role as Frasier Crane, which he played in the long-running hit series "Cheers" and its long-running spin-off series "Frasier." Between the two shows, Frasier Crane was the longest-running character on TV, tying 'Marshal Matt Dillon' from Gunsmoke who was played by James Arness, at 20 years. (The real winner so far is the character Nancy Hughes who was played by Helen Wagner for 54 years on As the World Turns.) Grammer was last seen in the lead role in the Starz political drama "Boss."

Martin Lawrence will play Marcus Jackson. Kelsey Grammer will play Allen Braddock.

It's been nearly two decades since Martin has been on TV. He hasn't had a feature role on a television series since "Martin" in 1997.  He's made movies and done stand-up tours but only made scattered TV appearances.

FX ordered 10 episodes of "Partners" for the first season. If it goes well, the show will sign up to produce an additional 90 episodes. FX developed "Anger Management," the comedy starring Charlie Sheen, the same way.
