Anderson Silva Leg Break Latest Update: Recovery Time Is Longer Than Expected, Next Fight Pushed Back To 2015

Anderson Silva, often referred to as "The Spider" among his fans, broke his leg in his duel against middleweight champ Chris Weidman. Anderson Silva received a low kick on his lower body, which snapped his tibia and fibula in one go. The latest update on his leg break recovery is that although he has been cleared to perform mixed martial arts activities, he faces a long and winding road to full recovery. His next fight may not be until 2015.

Anderson Silva agreed to a 10-fight deal with UFC in December 2012, but it seems unlikely that he will be able to wrap the rest of the fights up.

"I have eight fights to do yet in my contract. I want to do all these fights but I don't know that I will be in the mood to do this. For now, I'm very excited, I'm going through a renovation phase. It's going to be nice for me do what I love when I be back to fighting," he said.

Anderson Silva also added, "So, I back for next year. This year, I no back for fight. I have my plans. I have my family. I stay together my family. I work more in my academy in Brazil. So, next year, I don't know when, but next year."

After the injury, Anderson Silva immediately got the surgery done in Las Vegas. Dr. Steven Sanders, who performed the fighter's surgery, employed a titanium rod to repair the splintered tibia. The doctor revealed on an episode of SiriusXM's Tapout Radio that Anderson Silva may need a full 12-month recovery time before he can be back in the cage.
