Martinez (1-1, 2.75 ERA) is 1-0 with a 3.56 ERA in five starts this year and 3-0 with a 3.24 ERA in his last three starts since being brought out of the bullpen. He allowed four runs in 5 2/3 innings in his last start, against the Twins, on Thursday.

"Days like that you just gotta do what you can to battle," said Martinez of his last start. "But when it's going that way, just grind it out and find any way possible just to keep your team in it."

The Orioles entered Tuesday's series opener with a .275 road batting average, which is the second-best mark in the Majors behind the Rangers. They've also played 33 of 56 games on the road, which has been quite a test, according to MLB.com.

"We've been on the road a lot, especially in May. June we will be home a lot more, able to wind down. I'm sure people haven't even moved into their places in Baltimore," said center fielder Adam Jones, who hit his seventh home run on Tuesday. "This is a tough trip, 10 games in 11 days."

He added that he's pleased with the Orioles' third-place position in the American League East but said that there's work to be done.

"You want to be leading your division by 100 games at this point. We are still in striking distance," he said. "Toronto, their May as a team was unbelievable. Boston is always going to grind it out, New York and Tampa, I know they haven't played as well as they wanted to. But at this point, you are just a win streak away.

"We are still in striking distance and the only guy who has been hot has been [Nelson] Cruz. Imagine if [Chris Davis] and [Cruz] and Kakes [Nick Markakis] all get hot. The weather is heating up and we're going to start finding barrels."
