‘Gambit’ Movie: Channing Tatum Wants Solo Movie Before Joining The X-Men; 'Magic Mike' Believes Remy LeBeau Is Not The Typical Hero!

The "Gambit" solo movie is fast becoming a reality. With Channing Tatum already confirmed for the role, he confesses that he would rather have a solo outing rather before he would join the X-Men.

While he would be quick to point out that there were no contracts signed yet and Fox is already committed to three more movies, the "22 Jumpstreet" star believes having a solo film is the right way to go.

"Creatively, we're starting to chug forward. Obviously there's nothing written. There are only conversations and dreams really, right now. The machine of the Marvel world is so ginormous that it's literally like climbing a mountain, getting one of these movies made, and all of the pieces that go along with it, but I've been pretty vocal about wanting to be the part of Gambit for a very long time. It's a weird, pinching-myself moment that we're even having the conversation."

It's not too often you see a Hollywood A-lister getting dreamy about a role, but Tatum has been very candid with his feelings towards playing Gambit- which is also why he doesn't want the character to just walk in as part of the X-Men.

"We've talked about it being a standalone, first, and actually trying to change the 'hero, superhero movie' just a little because Gambit is not really your stereotypical 'hero' hero. He's a thief. He walks on the gray. I'm hoping we can change it a little bit, and then ultimately feather into the other ones."

To further understand what he's talking about, let's look at  the Marvel history for Gambit: "Remy LeBeau was kidnapped from his hospital ward by members of the New Orleans Thieves' Guild who referred to the child as 'le diable blanc' - the white devil. They believed he was the child that had been prophesied to unite the warring Guilds. Soon after, Remy was placed in the care of a gang of street thieves who raised the child and taught him the ways of thievery."

Yes, Remy LeBeau was a thief and in his first appearance in the X-Men comics, he dragged the X-Men into the middle of the War between the Assassins and the Thieves.

That sounds like an interesting plotline for a solo movie. Gambit is really a colorful character and it's right for Tatum to avoid deteriorating the character as 'just another mutant.'
