‘Frozen' Movie Makes Norway Top Tourist Destination! Fictional Kingdom Arendelle Has Spectacular Fjords And Is Based On The Northern European Country!

Disney's "Frozen" movie has become the fifth highest grossing movie of all time and it's also the top animated movie. But there's another accolade that the movie is earning.

The fictional kingdom of Arendelle in the movie has mentioned the "fjords." These are defined as  "a long, narrow, deep inlet of the sea between high cliffs, as in Norway and Iceland, typically formed by submergence of a glaciated valley." (Online Dictionary) It was loosely based on the actual country Norway.

The global effect of "Frozen" was not just felt by families flocking to the movie theaters. It has now prompted a sudden boost in the Tourism Industry of Norway.

From an AP report: "Harald Hansen, U.S. spokesman for Visit Norway, said the number of U.S. tourists to Norway increased markedly since the film's release in November, with booked hotel nights up 37 per cent for the first quarter of this year compared with the same period in 2013. He said tour operators have also seen a 40-per-cent sales increase this year, compared with the same period last year, while Oslo Airport Gardermoen reported a 57-per-cent increase in arrivals from New York for the first quarter."

Hansen told AP: "We noticed a huge increase from the U.S. already in November and December last year, just after we started our marketing with Disney in October,"

Hansen said that the increase in tourist traffic is most noticeable in the fjord region, but there was also more interest in Oslo and Northern Norway. The main attraction on these places is that visitors can see the northern lights. That was also prominently portrayed in the movie.

Disney has also gotten into the action they started. The statement, as published by AP: "The Disney tour company Adventures by Disney is taking fans on a series of eight-day trips to Norway this year, priced at more than $5,000 US a person, including a visit to Geirangerfjord, the fjord that inspired the film's fantasy kingdom of Arendelle. And Disney Cruise Line plans a Norway itinerary for 2015."

Now if they can find Elsa's spectacular ice castle and talk to a living snowman like Olaf, then all roads, waterways and airline traffic will definitely lead to Norway!
