"The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies" cast Benedict Cumberbatch lends his voice for "The Penguins of Madagascar" as Keira Knightley revealed that the actor once defended him against a journalist who said something about her.

According to MailOnline, "The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies" cast Benedict Cumberbatch will play Classified, a wolf who is the head of an animal organization called the North Wind. The very advanced group will provide refuge for the four hero penguins, Skipper, Rico, Kowalski and Private.

"The Penguins of Madagascar" is a spinoff of the "Madagascar" movie franchise starring Ben Stiller as Alex the Lion, Chris Rock as Marty the Zebra, David Schwimmer as Melman the giraffe, and Jada Pinkett-Smith as Gloria the hippo.

Benedict Cumberbatch, who also play Sherlock Holmes in the BBC series of the same title, will join John Malkovich who will voice Octavious Brine, the main villain in the animated film, and Ken Jeong ("Hangover") who will voice a seal.

Dreamworks released the official trailer of "The Penguins of Madagascar" where "The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies" cast Benedict Cumberbatch is seen explaining to the penguins what the North Wind is all about.

"The North Wind is an elite, undercover inter-species task force dedicated to helping animals who can't help themselves," the wolf said.

"The Penguins of Madagascar" is directed by Simon J. Smith and Eric Darnell and will be distributed by 20th Century Fox.

Meanwhile, "The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies" cast Benedict Cumberbatch played real-life hero to Keira Knightley who narrated to Elle magazine that the "Sherlock Holmes" actor once defended her honor from a insulting film critic.

According to the actress, the incident occurred way back in 2009 when Mark Kermode told the UK's Metro that an actor "very gently punched" him on air for saying something about the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star.

When Keira Knightley confronted "The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies" cast Benedict Cumberbatch about punching the critic, he said, "I f-king did!"
