Casey Kasem Daughters to Pull Life Support After Judge’s Ruling; Casey Kasem's Wife Tells Judge `You Have Blood on Your Hands’

Casey Kasem is dying. The critically ill top forty radio and television legend lies in a Washington state hospital, while a dramatic scene unfolds in a courtroom as Kasem's three children from his first marriage fight with their stepmother, Jean Kasem, over control of his final days.

A judge upheld an earlier conservatorship granted to eldest daughter Kerri Kasem during Casey's final days.

"You have blood on your hands," Kasem's wife of 34-years Jean Kasem told the judge and then stormed out of the Los Angeles courtroom.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Daniel S. Murphy reversed an earlier decision which ordered the continued feeding and hydration of Kasem while he's in hospice care in Washington state. Jean Kasem, who has been married to Casey since 1980, brought the request.

Jean Casem's lawyer Steve Harvey told the judge "You just imposed a death sentence" before he also walked out to join his client.

Judge Daniel S. Murphy said he changed his mind after he got medical records from St. Anthony's Hospital that said Kasem was not responding to artificial nutrition and fluids, leading to painful complications.

The judge said "It would be acutely harmful for Mr. Kasem to have nutrition and hydration restored at this time. This was at the advisement of doctors at St. Anthony's."

Troy Martin, who is the laywer for Kasem's daughter Kerri, presented the updated information to Murphy during an emergency hearing. According to TMZ the document says, "If the extension of my life would result in mere biological existence, devoid of cognitive function, with no reasonable hope for normal functioning, then I do not desire any form of life-sustaining procedures, including nutrition and hydration."

Haney said Murphy's ruling was based on an outdated document. Haney said Kasem still had the  ability to communicate nonverbally as of last week.

"We're really deeply disturbed by the court's ruling today," Haney told The Times in a phone interview. It's just wrong. Jean Kasem is broken-hearted."

Haney said that Jean Kasem is in Los Angeles and called family's invitation for her to come to Washington is "all show."

"She doesn't want to go up there and be a part of what they're doing," he said. "When I left her she was crying pretty significantly."

TMZ reported that police are investigating claims that Kasem's health may have been fatally compromised when his wife removed him from a convalescent home

According to TMZ Casey's daughter Kerri contacted the Santa Monica Police Department to allege that her father was the victim of elder abuse. TMZ says a criminal investigation is targeting Jean Kasem.
