Marvel Doctor Strange Movie Battle For ‘Sorcerer Supreme’ – ‘Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug’ Benedict Cumberbatch Vs ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Tom Hardy

Marvel Doctor Strange movie is actively preparing for Phase Three Cinematic Universe as the film finally finds a director! Well known horror film director Scott Derrickson (Sinister, Exorcism of Emily Rose) confirms through Twitter his commitment with Marvel's planned project.

"My next movie will be STRANGE," Derrickson tweeted along with his photo reading an early issue of Doctor Strange comic book.

In the wake of the recent development of the planned Marvel Doctor Strange project, Deadline.com reports that fan favorites "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" Benedict Cumberbatch and "The Dark Knight Rises" star Tom Hardy are both being eyed to play the titular role.

When asked by Moviefone if it's official for Doctor Strange to be included in Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Three, Kevin Feige answered:

"Well, you know, Phase 3 is a few years along, so I hope it's there somewhere. But no, nothing's official."

"I very much love Doctor Strange," Marvel's chief Kevin Feige tells the Daily News, revealing his intentions of pursuing the movie and he's now currently searching for the right director to helm the film.

"The way that 'Thor,' 'Avengers' and now certainly 'Guardians of the Galaxy' tap into that cosmic side, it will be great to go into the world of Doctor Strange and the supernatural realm," Feige explained.

Marvel Doctor Strange planned movie has been teased in Captain America: The Winter Soldier!

If you're one comic fan, the name "Stephen Strange" would definitely ring a bell to you. In Captain America 2 film, HYDRA, the terrorist organization out to neutralize Cap, has mentioned Stephen Strange as a possible threat to them.

For those of you who are not familiar with the name, Stephen Strange is actually the sorcerer doctor's alias. A surgeon whose hands were damaged in an accident that eventually paved way for him to learn the mystic art of sorcery.

And in one of his recent interviews with Moviefone, Marvel's president was very positive in turning the magical Doctor into a big name with a standalone film.

"I do think [Doctor] Strange is one that I certainly think you start off with his own movie," Feige said. "There's no right way or wrong way necessarily in the big picture, but because he's associated with such a different side of the Marvel Universe, to suddenly have our characters turn a corner and go, 'Oh, hey, let's go see the Sorcerer Supreme.' What? What are you talking about?"

"Pirates of the Caribbean" star Johnny Depp was linked to take on the lead role for Marvel Doctor Strange movie.

However, Marvel's big boss Kevin Feige clarifies the rumors saying, "We're meeting a lot of people now," Feige admitted during an interview. "That article was not true about who we're meeting or what level anybody is. But we're actively looking."

He then added, "Doctor Strange would be our - well, depending on when we make it, it could be our 13th, 14th, 15th movie," he says. "I think if you're looking to track our decision-making and how we've done things, we have a pretty wide track record now where you can sort of see. So, no, a movie star is not required, but that doesn't mean a movie star wouldn't be great."
