Sonic The Hedgehog Movie In The Works For Sony Pictures And Sega As ‘Live-Action/CGI Hybrid’ – Angry Birds, Metal Gear & Heavy Rain To Follow Soon?

Finally! Another classic video game film adaptation is in the works! Sony Pictures and Sega announced their partnership in developing Sonic The Hedgehog movie.

Sony has the movie rights to Angry Birds, Heavy Rain, Rollercoaster Tycoon and Metal Gear, all have effectively cornered the market. Among the famous video games, Metal Gear Solid is the only other game to have actually been active in turning into a movie.

Sony Pictures production president Hannah Minghella said: "There are limitless stories to tell with a character like Sonic the Hedgehog."

The proposed Sonic The Hedgehog movie is reportedly going to be a "live-action/CGI hybrid," which will follow most of its story from the games, having Dr. Eggman as his arch enemy.

It is speculated that Dr. Eggman will be played by a human actor while Sonic is animated. The film is still in its early development thus, no casting has been announced yet.

Marza, a subsidiary of Sega responsile for the animated Sonic short-subject Night of the Werehog, will also be producing the planned film. Evan Susser and Van Robichaux, Upright Citizens Brigade LA alumni are hired to pen the script.

"Along with our wonderful creative partners at Marza, we're looking to capture everything that generations of fans know and love about Sonic while also growing his audience wider than ever before," Hannah Minghella said.

Sonic The Hedgehog movie signals Sony's plans of a global theatrical release with the fact that they're calling it a "hybrid" film. However, at this stage it's too early to tell if the film could actually make it to the silver screen.
