"The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies" cast Benedict Cumberbatch has under scrutiny for the "Sherlock" season 4 delay, as the actor is said to be a veteran of near death experiences.

Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock Holmes), as well as Martin Freeman (Dr. Watson), are playing Smaug the dragon and Bilbo Baggins, respectively, in "The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies" and their schedule reportedly do not allow for filming of the BBC series about the world's greatest detective.

However, showrunner Steven Moffat was quick to dismiss the rumors as he himself is quite busy with his new show "Doctor Who" with Peter Capaldi, still on BBC.

When asked if "Sherlock" season 4 will air in 2016, Steven Moffat said, "I have no idea."

"You know, we'll do what we can, but with no sacrifice in quality -- that's the thing. If people have to wait two years, they'll have to wait two years," he said of "Sherlock" season 4.

"When's the next James Bond film? You know, it's not that kind of show that turns up all the time. It's just not. But the good news is, that probably means it will turn up sporadically for a very, very long while," he added.

Not many people know it but "The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies" cast Benedict Cumberbatch is actually a veteran of four near death experiences, according to a biographer Nigel Goodall as reported by UK's Express.

According to the report, "The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies" cast Benedict Cumberbatch survived "hypothermia, a bomb explosion, dehydration and near-starvation."

The actor was kidnapped, along with friends, while filming "To the Ends of the Earth" in 2005 for BBC. The car he was riding was carjacked and the six armed men divested them of all their belongings.
