Capcom's 'Dead Rising' Zombie Video Game To Get Movie Adaptation For Sony's Ad Supported Streaming Site Crackle: 'Transfomers' producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura To Head Project [PHOTO]

Zombies! With the success of "The Walking Dead," which started as a comic, became a show, and has since expanding into a video game, others are trying to cash out on the zombie fad. "Dead Rising" will be doing this process in reverse, from video game to film, as Sony's Crackle, an ad supported digital streaming service similar to Hulu.com.

"Dead Rising" was originally released for the Xbox 360 and the third version of the game was released last year for Xbox One. The plot of the first game is essentially "Dawn of the Dead." It features a character is stuck in a mall, and you have to pick up whatever you can to fight off horde after horde of zombies.

"Dead Rising" the movie takes place during a large-scale zombie outbreak. When a mandatory government vaccine fails to stop the infection, and the leads must evade infection while pursuing the root of the epidemic, with all signs pointing to a government conspiracy.

Legendary Pictures Digital Chief Tom Lesinski said, "Dead Rising has a built-in fan base and rich characters and plotlines that are ideal for digital storytelling and on target for Legendary's brand. Crackle and Content are adept at distributing cutting-edge digital content and we look forward to delivering a highly engaging and cool series for a global audience."

"Transformers" producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura will executive produce the film, and Tim Carter will write and produce with Tomas Harlan through their Contradiction Films banner. There is no word as to who will directis not yet set.

The zombie movie is being made by the new, untested, digital arm of Legendary Studios, the people behind Godzilla and Batman Begins. The "Dead Rising" film won't be heading to theaters, instead it will be released on Crackle, Sony's ad supported streaming service.

Crackle has dabbled in some original content, the most successful being Jerry Seinfeld's " Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee." But nothing of this scale or budget has been attempted for an Ad supported streaming service.

After it has done its time on Crackle, the "Dead Rising" movie will be available on-demand and on physical media.

"The Dead Rising" video game franchise has sold 6.5 million copies worldwide.
