'Predator' Reboot Announced By Fox: Shane Black Of 'Iron Man 3' To Direct: Franchise Taken From 'Predators' Director Robert Rodriguez [PHOTO]

The Predator franchise has endured more crossovers, reboots, and remakes than a single franchise can bare, now it is getting another. Fox has announced that they are going ahead with another "Predator" remake, with Shane Black, writer and director of "Iron Man 3" at the helm.

In a strange twist of fate, it turns out that Shane Black was in the original "Predator" movie, playing a bit part for comic relief. John Davis, from Fox, who produced the 1987 original with Joel Silver and Lawrence Gordon, is producing the reboot.

Black and Fred Dekker of 1987's "Monster Squad" will write the script.

"Predator" starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers and Jesse Ventura as commandos stranded in jungle, hunted by an alien in dreadlocks who's breathing sounds suspiciously like a bong. John McTiernan directed the original film.

After that it was "Predator 2," then those awful "Alien vs. Predator movies in 2004 and 2007, and finally "Predators" in 2010 starring Adrien Brody and Laurence Fishburne. This is the truly perplexing part, "Predators" was pretty good, grossing 127 million, especially considering the massive failures that were its predecessors. Robert Rodriguez has spoken about doing a sequel before, so why isn't he attached to this project. Did he turn it down, or did the studio snub him?

Fox exec Matt Reilly is overseeing the latest reboot.

Besides "Iron Man 3″ and "Monster Squad," Shane Black's writing credits include "Lethal Weapon," "The Last Boy Scout," and "Last Action Hero." He also wrote and directed the cult "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," which relaunched Robert Downey Junior's career.

He also developing a reboot of "The Nice Guys" and "Doc Savage" for Sony.
