'WarGames' Remake To Be Directed By Dean Israelite: Seth Gordon of 'Horrible Bosses' Walks From Project, 'The Fault In Our Stars' Actor Ansel Elgort And Tye Sheridan From 'Mud' Compete For Lead

Guess what, they are remaking another classic 80's movie. Who would have suspected? MGM has put relatively unknown director Dean Israelite of  has been put at the helm of the latest "WarGames" remake, Ansel Elgort from"The Fault In Out Stars" and Tye Sheridan from "Mud" are both up for the lead.

The original 1983 version of "WarGames," is about a teen computer expert, played by Matthew Broderick, who accidentally starts playing a game with a U.S. military super computer, nearly starting WW3. The film tapped into fears about the Cold War and the emergence of computers and was generally considered both a commercial and critical success.

Screenrant says, "A modernized take on WarGames could very much be something worth everyone's time from a creative perspective, assuming that the filmmakers involved take an intelligent and thoughtful approach - one that includes accounting for thirty years of changes in computer technology. (One just hopes that the moviemakers understand the Internet better than the folk who worked on Transcendence apparently did, anyway.)"

Seth Gordon of "Horrible Bosses," and "Identity Thief" was originally attached to be the director, but has decided to walk from the project and work on Sony's "Uncharted" instead. Dean Isralite's first movie "Project Almanac" was delayed and will be released in 2015.

Dean Israelite is finishing a deal that will see him call the shots, and there is a fresh draft of the script written by Arah Amel of "Grace of Monaco." Noah Oppenheim from "The Maze Runner" and Zak Penn of "The Incredible Hulk" wrote earlier drafts of the movie.

According to The Wrap, Ansel Elgort and The Sheridan are both competing for the lead.
