Bon Iver Writes Song For Zach Braff 'Wish I Was Here' Movie

Bon Iver released a new song inspired by Zach Braff's new movie "Wish I Was Here." According to NPR's "All Songs Considered," the "Garden State" actor and former star of "Scrubs" asked many artists to contribute songs to the soundtrack of his latest movie.

Justin Vernon of the band Bon Iver was apparently so taken upon his first screening of the movie that he immediately wrote the song "Heavenly Father" specifically for the upcoming film.

Music supervisor for the movie Mary Ramos told the story of the inspiration in an email to NPR. "They were enjoying it and laughing, but at a certain point, they just got quiet. When it was over, Justin started humming. We talked afterwards about the relationship between Zach's character and his brother [Josh Gad], and Justin and Nate talked a little about their father - all the while Justin kept distractedly humming. Eventually, he sang out the words 'heavenly father.' Before I even left their house, Justin was recording the first version of the song in his downstairs studio. His inspiration was that immediate."

Other artists featured on the soundtrack include Paul Simon, Coldplay, and an additional Bon Iver song from 2011, "Holocene." Braff is known for hand picking the soundtracks to his movies, and helped to escalate the popularity of The Shins from the soundtrack to "Garden State."

The new film is set to be released in theatres on July 18 and also stars Kate Hudson, Jim Parsons and Donald Faison. Braff funded the movie through a Kickstarter campaign. The film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival on January 18, 2014.

The new song is now trending on Facebook. It is a slow ballad with electronic components. It is Bon Iver's first project since taking a nearly 2 year hiatus.
