Windows 9 Release Date: Upcoming Version Of Microsoft Platform A 'Shape-Shifter'? Can Transform Into Phone, Tablet Or PC Version?

A lot of people have been waiting for the Windows 9 release date ever since Windows 8 made its debut a couple of years back. That is because the platform's features certainly does not fit well in the PC realm.

Sure, the touch-enabled features are eye-candy and can be seen as an improvement, however the live tiles desktop is certainly not as productive as the traditional Windows desktop setup.

And so, Microsoft has been developing a PC platform that will unify the Windows OS. And in a new report by GSM Arena, it will soon do.

The Windows 9 update will reportedly feature a hardware detecting function, which would automatically modify its own settings. For instance, if Win 9 were to be installed in a PC and the device runs it for the first time, Windows will detect that it is a PC, and therefore enable features which are better for that particular hardware.

On the other hand, if Windows 9 would be installed in a tablet or say a smartphone, it would be able to provide touch-enabled functions which are more convenient in that particular device.

In the report, this plan by Microsoft is to unify the Windows platform, at least software-wise this time.

But what about its current mobile platform, Windows Phone 8.1? After a slow start in terms of market reception, Microsoft's mobile OS has slowly gained momentum thanks in part to the release of the 8.1 update. The new version brings new improvements and features including customization options for the homescreen, a dedicated notification center, and voice assistant and Siri-rival Cortana.

The platform is also being used by more handsets today than ever, with more manufacturers joining the Windows Phone bandwagon.

Once this Windows 9 plan is implemented, could it also be the end for the WP platform?

The upcoming version of Windows is said to be previewed during the fall, and we will be happy to bring you more details about that even in the coming weeks.
