GoPro Hero4 Release Date To Possibly Follow October Trend; Will GoPro Hero3 Soon Have A Price Drop?

Speculations are continuously surfacing regarding the GoPro Hero4 release date but the most repetitive guess points to October 2014. The GoPro Hero3 was released in October 2012 whereas Hero2 came out in October 2011.

While the GoPro Hero 4 release date might follow the pattern of its predecessors, some speculate that the new model won't be released until next year because the sports camera giant might still prolong the hype that came with Hero3.

On the other hand, some camera enthusiasts are watching for GoPro Hero3 price drops as they might be indications of the GoPro Hero4 release date. Hero3 is currently being retailed on Amazon for $380.

While the makers of the "World's Most Versatile Camera" remain mum about the GoPro Hero4 release date, the newest camera will reportedly come with a 13-megapixel photosensor as well as a complete set of new lens which will make shooting in dark settings a breeze.

The much anticipated model will reportedly be capable of capturing videos in 4K resolution at 30 frames per second speed. This is made possible by the new SoC Ambarella A9 chip.

Digital Trends provided a brief comparison of Hero3 and Hero4: "While the current cameras could technically handle 4K, it's more of a novelty and not particularly useful due to the 15-fps frame rate - not the smoothest video you'll see. According to reports, the Hero4 could possibly use the new A9 dual-core 1GHz system-on-chip component from Ambarella (which makes SOCs for GoPro) that would allow the camera to record 4K with faster frame rates, in the H.264 codec (it'd also handle the other aforementioned video resolutions)."

The cost of the unreleased camera is expected to be close to its predecessors' price points.
