Katy Perry Plagiarism: Pop singer Katy Perry is being sued for plagiarism and a dash of witchcraft for her "Dark Horse" melody.

Katy Perry's "Dark Horse" music video has drawn its share of controversy. The Christian Right was upset by Katy Perry's seemingly satanic lyrics and Illuminati references. Egyptian scholars laughed at the "Dark Horse" Cleopatra Twinkies. Then Katy Perry drew Islamic ire for burning a symbol of Allah in the "Dark Horse" music video.

Now Katy Perry is being sued for allegedly stealing the melody from Christian rapper Flame and for using that melody to glorify witchcraft. Katy Perry said the song didn't promote witchcraft, it was inspired by the 1996 movie The Craft.

According to reports, Flame sued Katy Perry in Missouri District Court for allegedly stealing the melody to his 2008 Grammy-nominated gospel song Joyful Noise for her 2013 hit "Dark Horse."

Flame was schooled in a seminary. Katy Perry used to be a Christian recording artist who recorded under the name Katy Hudson.

Flame alleges that the techno melody and beat in Dark Horse are just slowed down versions of his song.

Flame is joined by Lecrae and Da' T.R.U.T.H. and their suit also names Capitol Records. "Joyful Noise" was a track on Flame's "Our World: Redeemed" album from 2008. It was nominated for Grammy and got a Gospel Music Association Dove Award nomination for the Best Rap/Hip Hop Recorded Song of the Year.

Besides the plagiarism charge, the plaintiffs also say Perry damaged "Joyful Noise" because the "the devoutly religious message" of the song "has been irreparably tarnished by its association with the witchcraft, paganism, black magic, and Illuminati imagery evoked by the same music in 'Dark Horse.'"

The plaintiffs are seeking unspecified damages and want Katy Perry to be banned from using any form of their music immediately.

Because of "Dark Horse," Katy became the top digital artist of all time, according to RIAA Gold & Platinum Program. Dark Horse sold 72 million digital singles.
