Heechul Knew About Park Bom's Drug Investigation Years Ago

Once again, Heechul proves that he's different than the average idol with his all encompassing knowledge of the industry.

Super Junior's Heechul revealed in a recent appearance on the talk show War Of Words that he had heard rumors about Park Bom's drug-shipping incident a while ago.

The 2NE1 singer got into some trouble with the law when her family in the United States sent amphetamine in a package that was filled with jelly candies and weight loss aids. The case was dropped by the Seoul Prosecutor and was never revealed to the public until a few weeks ago, when an exclusive report revealed the information to the public.

Unlike the public, Heechul hadn't been in the dark about the situation. Four years ago, he had been drinking with some of the reporters he was close with and they said that there would be a big scandal involving one of YG's most popular idols.

However, since no news came out at the time, Heechul admitted on the July 17 episode of War Of Words that he assumed the reporters had been simply telling him a rumor. Only now, several years after the incident occurred, were the rumors confirmed.

The show also had a discussion about how YG Entertainment handled the affair.

Heechul recently announced that he would be leaving War Of Words, due to the fact that he finds it uncomfortable to talk about the scandals that his close friends have been involved in.

There have been several high profile SM Entertainment scandals in the past few months, most prominently EXO's Baekhyun and Girls' Generation's Taeyeon proving to be dating and EXO's Kris leaving the group, and Heechul seems to have found himself in an uncomfortable position.

During the Kris scandal, Heechul appeared particularly uncomfortable while trying to explain how Kris' situation was different from form Super Junior member Han Geng (Hankyung.) Fans were aware that Han Geng and Heechul were close friend, and he clearly became uncomfortable when having to explain that Han Geng and Kris' circumstances were completely different.

Even speaking about SM Entertainment's main competitor, YG Entertainment, also places in Heechul in an awkward spotlight- as a member of SM, he can't necessarily praise the actions of YG in handling the case, but at the same time anything he says about the scandal could be misconstrued.

As an idol and a talk show host on such a show, Heechul was heavily burdened.

Heechul wrote a note on his Instagram following his final taping of the show: "It was really difficult talking about people I know on TV. If I do the broadcast, I hurt the people around me, but if I protect those people, I harm the broadcast. I was unable to become cool-headed. In the end, after thinking about it a lot, I felt this mental burden, 'Since I can't do it right, I should just leave,' and told the 'Ssul Jeon' team, who understand my concerns very well and said they would miss me.

To the audience members who were hurt by my words, I doubt I can wash away everything that happened through saying sorry, but I will keep everything that happened forever in my heart, so that I will watch what I say and be more careful on TV."

His last filming for the show was taped on July 14.
