Gillian Anderson Says Crowdfunding Can Move Third X-Files To The Screen, But Wants to Be a Ghostbuster

Gillian Anderson, Agent Dana Scully on the "X-Files," says a third movie from the science fiction series could happen through crowdfunding. But the science half of the X-Files team would also make a great Egon in the new Ghostbusters film.

During a Reddit Q&A, Gillian Anderson hinted at a third 'X-Files' movie and pleaded to become a Ghostbuster. The truth is out there, well at least hope is out there, said Gillian Anderson, and hope comes in the form of crowdfunding for the third 'X-Files' movie.

X-Files Creator Chris Carter and stars David Duchovny and Anderson told the Reddit crowd they are all ready.

Speaking to Bloomberg TV, Anderson said "We could crowdfund an 'X-Files' movie. That (funding issue) is ultimately is what's keeping it from happening - other than Fox giving the go-ahead, which is not a small issue."

When asked about the third X-Files film, Anderson wrote "Uh....uh... uh.. Sorta kinda. Keep your ears to the ground."

Chris Carter, told Empire Magazine "It's really up to Twentieth Century Fox, whether they have the will to do it. I think all of us are interested in putting the band back together. I have an idea for a third movie in my head. The colonization date has passed [December 22, 2012] and that is something we wouldn't ignore in that story. When they came to us and asked us to do the second movie, they told us the budget limitations and we knew we wouldn't be able to do another mythology story," he continued. "So we did something much smaller and more intimate - I call it a standalone movie. But if we were going to go forward, I would go back to something that would really connect more to the mythology and to the first movie."

Anderson starred with David Duchovny on The X-Files, which ran from 1993 to 2002, and in two movies spun off the show.

X-Files star Gillian Anderson told fans she would love to be a Ghostbuster in the upcoming women-led reboot, which was confirmed to be directed by Paul Feig, who made "Bridesmaids."

Feig took to Twitter to say Katie Dippold would be writing the script with him. They pair worked together on Feig's last film, The Heat.

When asked about the Ghostbusters reboot, Anderson's said "OH MY GOD, I just looked it up online. Paul Feig, cast me now! Start a Twitter petition! I'm free!!!!! I'm free I'm free and I'm funny, goddamnit!"

Ghostbusters star Bill Murray recently said a reboot should feature Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Linda Cardellini and Emma Stone. Emma told MTV, that that would be "pretty nice" but didn't confirm or deny her involvement.
