CL Bares 2NE1's 'Goodbye' Track was a Letter for Minzy; Final Song Tops 8 iTunes Music Charts Upon Released

CL revealed that 2NE1's last track entitled "Goodbye" was meant for Minzy. She said that the lyrics was actually a letter to the youngest member of the group and she just edited it to make the song.

The 2NE1 leader further shared that while composing the track, she had Minzy and Blackjacks (2NE1's official fan club name) in mind. According to Insight, the lyrics reflects how CL felt about the group's break up and at the same time, those were the same words that she wanted to say to both Minzy and their fans.

CL added that she wrote the song when Minzy left the group and YG Entertainment. When it was only the three of them - Dara, Park Bom and herself - were left to record their supposed new album, she remembered Minzy so she wrote a letter for her. Now, the note was changed a bit and it was made into 2NE1's "Goodbye" track.

JTBC News reported that CL is positive that they will meet again to perform, as a whole group, in the future. Perhaps when that time comes, they will get to sing "Fire" again on stage.

In any case, YG's very first girl group suddenly disbanded in November 2016. No immediately explanation was given when it was announced, hence the news came as a big shock to everyone, especially the Blackjacks.

It was only recently that YG's CEO Yang Hyun Suk gave his official statement regarding 2NE1's disbandment. Citing a report by KpopStarz, Yang disclosed that Park Bom was the main reason why he decided to end the group's promotion.

Bom was involved in a drug scandal in 2014 and the CEO explained that the singer suffered from great stress which affected her mental health. Although Bom expressed her desire to continue promoting with her group, Yang thinks that she should deal with her condition first so in the end, 2NE1 had to disband after almost seven years of performing together.

Meanwhile, "Goodbye" tops music charts and eight Asian iTunes charts. The ballad ranked first on iTunes in Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan, Vietnam and Cambodia, following its Jan. 21 release.
