Filming Of ‘Mrs. Doubtfire 2’ Hangs In Balance With Robin Williams’ Reported Suicide; Sequel’s Original Cast Mara Wilson To Take Time Off Following News

Filming of "Mrs. Doubtfire 2" hangs in the balance with Robin Williams' reported suicide as original cast Mara Wilson to take time off following the death of her on-screen father.

According to Variety, there's no decision yet whether to recast the role played by Robin Williams in "Mrs. Doubtfire 2."

However, director Chris Columbus released a statement following Robin Williams' suicide: "His performances were unlike anything any of us had ever seen, they came from some spiritual and otherworldly place. He truly was one of the few people who deserved the title of 'genius.' We were friends for 21 years."

But Variety said there's still a chance that the "Mrs. Doubtfire" sequel is going to be rebooted, since the original generated $400 million worldwide.

The director added: "Our children grew up together, he inspired us to spend our lives in San Francisco and I loved him like a brother. The world was a better place with Robin in it. And his beautiful legacy will live on forever."

The 27-year-old Mara Wilson posted in a tweet following Robin Williams' suicide: "Very sad, very upset, very glad I did not have to hear about this though Twitter. Probably going to be taking some time off it for a while."

Earlier, when reports of a "Mrs. Doubtfire 2" surfaced, Mara Wilson, who played Robin Williams' kid in the 1993 film, wrote on Twitter about her feelings about the sequel.

"I've been in some mediocre movies, but I've never been in a sequel. Sequels generally suck unless they were planned as part of a trilogy or series. I think Doubtfire ended where it needed to end," Mara Wilson wrote.

The plot for the "Mrs. Doubtfire" sequel has not been released but prior to Robin Williams' suicide, it was reported that David Berenbaum was writing the script.
