Sooyoung Reveals A Red Velvet Song Was Originally For Girls' Generation

On April 25, 2024, Sooyoung appeared on the latest episode of MMTG's "Hit Song Championship." During her time on the show, she revealed a fun fact that has not been revealed to fans.

She revealed that for one of Girls' Generation's albums, the girl group received the guide for "Red Flavor." Fans may recall that title as Red Velvet's hit 2017 song. It is one of their most successful releases, topping all major domestic charts and even debuting at number four on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales Chart.

Looking at the timeline, it makes sense why they were unable to push through with the promotions. The girl group would be celebrating their tenth anniversary that year and had not made a formal comeback since 2015.

Instead of releasing "Red Flavor," Girls' Generation dropped the album "Holiday Night," with lead singles "Holiday" and "All Night." Later that year, Sooyoung left SM Entertainment, and the members went on an extended hiatus from group activities. It would take them four years to reunite and five years to release new music together.
