Seven Network Bashed For Airing “Family Guy” Robin Williams Agent Episode; Network Not Mocking Actor’s Death, Says It Was A ‘Coincidence’

Seven Network's airing of a "Family Guy" Robin Williams episode earned the ire of social media users because of its alleged insensitivity. Fourteen hours after the "Patch Adams" actor was found dead, the "Big Man on Hippocampus" episode was aired which the network claimed as a "coincidence."

In the said "Family Guy" Robin Williams agent episode which was first aired in January 2010, Peter loses his memory. One scene of the episode involves Stewie accusing his family of pretending that he doesn't exist. He compares their pretention to how "Robin Williams' agent pretends he's still funny."

The transcript of the scene goes:

Agent: Hello?

Williams: Hey Phil, it's Robin Williams.

Phil: Ahahahahahaha! That's hilarious!

Williams: I just wanted to make sure the meeting is still on for 2:30 tomorrow otherwise I gotta go that Chinese dentist. Get it, tooth hurty?

Phil: Ah-hahaha-ha-ha! You son of a bitch! I had a mouthful of coffee! God, you are funny and that is real!

Those who were able to watch the episode took to Twitter to express their disappointment:

"Family guy chose the wrong time to put the Robin Williams episode on.."

The network has responded to Mumbrella by saying that the airing was simply a coincidence. Meanwhile, BBC in the United Kingdom similarly had to explain after airing another "Family Guy" episode entitled "Viewer Mail #2" which also featured Williams.

The airing took place minutes before Robin Williams' news death went viral. In the episode, everything that Peter touches turns into Williams which is reminiscent of the Midas Touch.

BBC was quick to defend itself by saying that it was an "uncanny coincidence" for they have already planned of airing the episode two weeks before Williams committed suicide.

"The episode ended just as the news broke about his death. This was a repeat that we have shown a couple of times before, so who could have planned that? It was scheduled more than two weeks ago so it is just an uncanny coincidence. Some of our people who work here noticed that the death of Robin Williams was announced just as this episode ended," a representative told Mail Online.

The spokesman added that the episode was supposed to be replayed on Friday but the network opted not to push its plans.
