Grigor Dimitrov credited his girlfriend Maria Sharapova for all his recent success in WTA tour in his rare and in-depth pre U.S. Open 2014 interview. Looks like Grigor Dimitrov is learning a lot from his older girlfriend! He admitted that her pep talk before game against Novak Djokovic helped him beat him and climb the WTA rankings. Is Grigor Dimitrov about to get engaged to Maria Sharapova?

In a rare pre U.S. Open 2014 interview with Financial Times Magazine, Grigor Dimitrov admitted how happy he is with Maria Sharapova.

“We’re happy, which is the most important thing,” he confessed, “It’s nice, you know, there’s a lot of respect and obviously sometimes when you maybe need advice or something, you know who to ask.”

Looks like the 23-year-old Bulgarian is doing a lot leaning on his girlfriend, who has a lot more experience in the court. He also told the magazine how it was Maria Sharapova, and not his coach, who “provided the inspirational pre-match pep talk before Dimitrov’s breakthrough win against Novak Djokovic in Madrid last year”.

FT Magazine wrote “Dimitrov refuses to divulge what she told him that evening but it signalled the start of a growing belief that he belongs among the best in the world”.

If he is already trusting her with his game, then is he hinting that he’s ready to take the next step in their relationship? The rumor has it that engagement may not be too far off for the couple that has been dating for over 18 months.

If anything, Maria has been showing a little cold about her boyfriend in her interviews. Although Grigor has been gushing about his girlfriend to reporters, she has been less inclined to spill the beans on their relationship.

Maybe Novak Djokovic isn't the most important hurdle that Grigor is facing.
