New Dinosaur Bigger Than T Rex Had ‘Obsession With Eating’: Dreadnoughtus Schrani Not Carnivore, Titanosaurs’ Eating Habits Astound Scientists

Think you are obsessed with food? Scientists unearthed the animal that can beat any living creature’s appetite. Meet Dreadnoughtus schrani, the new dinosaur bigger than T Rex that had an “obsession with eating”. The dinosaur, discovered in southern Argentina, was strictly non-carnivorous, but still managed to weigh seven times the average T Rex. And this particular specimen found wasn’t even fully grown!

This new dinosaur bigger than T Rex has about 70 percent of its bones recovered, making it one of the most complete fossilized ancient reptiles in collection.

"Dreadnoughtus schrani was astoundingly huge," said study author Kenneth Lacovara, an associate professor at Drexel University in Philadelphia according to CBS News. "It weighed as much as a dozen African elephants or more than seven T. rex."

The stats are astounding. Dreadnoughtus schrani lived about 77 million years ago, measured 85 feet long, and weighed about 65 tons.

And, reportedly, ate a lot.

"Imagine a life-long obsession with eating," Lacovara said.

Because of its size, Dreadnoughtus schrani spent most of its waking hours eating, not just to stay alive, but to grow.

The researchers believe that when “this 65-ton animal died, it was not even done growing,” according to CBS News.

To initiate this new dino into the group of titanosaurs, Professor Lacovara let his inner geek take rein.

"[New titanosaurs] evokes to me a class of turn-of-the-last century battleships called the dreadnoughts, which were huge, thickly clad and virtually impervious."

Yes, he named a dinosaur after the Royal Navy battleship.

As for the second part of the new dino’s name, capitalism took hold. Schrani comes from the businessman who funded the research called Adam Schran.

If this new dinosaur bigger than T Rex had an Instagram account, it wouldn’t be found on @youdidnoteatthat.

Alas, extinction got the best of Dreadnoughtus schrani. But don’t worry, social media has found a way of immortalizing the biggest creature that walked on Earth.
