An online Chinese film The Heirs From The Stars is facing plagiarism accusations for reportedly combining the Korean dramas The Heirs and My Love From The Stars.

The director of the Chinese film, Kang Jo Han, came forward yesterday to shut down the allegations during a production press conference held in Beijing, according to the website Soompi.

"The scenario for the film was decided on before the two Korean dramas were aired," stated Kang, according to the Korean publication Naver.

He added, "The title and plot of the film are derived from literature, although we took elements of that out of this movie. The title was chosen solely for commercial purposes."

The Heirs From The Stars is about a man who goes 300 years into the future from the Qing Dynasty to the 21st century, becoming the heir to a large corporation, according to the Chinese website Baidu. The man then falls in love with a woman from the Baekje Dynasty.

The title and plot of the movie aren't the only aspects of the film that's receiving backlash.

Soon after the poster for the movie was released, Korean Internet users also reportedly pointed out that the advertisement looks very much like a Girls' Generation poster.

The original My Love From The Stars, which aired on the Korean network SBS, was explosively popular in China and made the record for being sold at the highest price for a Korean drama, according to the publication CJ E&M enews World.

The stars of the Korean drama, Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun, also skyrocketed in popularity within China because of how much love and attention the series garnered from fans.

Despite the criticism, the director of the upcoming film has expressed his high hopes for the movie once it's released to the public on the website iQIYI on September 19.

"Many might point fingers, but if people who watch the movie enjoy themselves, that is enough," stated Kang.
