Maria Sharapova is close to world number 1 WTA ranking so Serena Williams better watch out! The last time that Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams had some head to head drama, things got ugly pretty quickly. Let’s hope that the ladies avoid any boyfriend drama this time around!

Though Serena Williams won the US Open 2014, she is close to losing her world number 1 WTA ranking! Maria Sharapova, currently in the second place, is just over 500 points away from world number 1, meaning that if things go badly for Serena Williams and very well for the Russian, Maria Sharapova could claim her old former glory again.

We’ll have to see how things play out at WTA Finals in Singapore this October!

Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams don’t have the best head to head record though. Their last big fight was over a press conference in which the two world-class players attacked each other’s boyfriend choices.

Serena was reported to have said, “If she wants to be with the guy with a black heart [Grigor Dimitrov, Maria’s current boyfriend], go for it.”

To that, Sharapova replied, “If Serena wants to talk about something personal, she should talk about her relationship and her boyfriend who was married, who is getting a divorce and who has kids – and not draw attention to other things.”

The boyfriend situation that the Russian tennis player alluded to was Serena's alleged affair with her coach Patrick Mouratoglou. Though the 32-year-old tennis player have vehemently denied the rumors, she has been caught having dinner with her coach in intimate settings.

Yikes. Let’s hope that this fight for world number 1 won’t drag in their boyfriend troubles! Keep it classy ladies!
