Gina Carano's UFC Deal Dead As Henry Cavill's Girlfriend Focuses On Movies? Women's MMA Not In Need Of Her 'Audience Pull?'

Gina Carano's UFC deal is just about dead, as Henry Cavill's girlfriend is focusing on movies. Women's MMA, meanwhile, will live on despite her apparent audience pull.

Deadline reported that Gina Carano will join Robert de Niro, Dave Batista, Kate Bosworth, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the latest film "Bus 657."

The film "centers on a father (Morgan) without the means to pay for his daughter's medical treatment. As a last resort, he partners with a greedy co-worker (Batista) to rob a Casino and the two hijack a bus full of hostages and things go awry," the site said.

Gina Carano plays a policewoman trying to bring down the suspects.

Meanwhile, even if the Gina Carano's UFC deal won't happen, women's MMA will still thrive, wrote Ethan Finkelstein for Fansided. In 2009, the former champion was the face of mixed martial arts but that was before the women's MMA has evolved.

Gina Carano has not fought for five years after she was knocked out in just one round by Cyborg Justino.

"Meanwhile, women's MMA has a new star. Her name is Ronda Rousey (10-0). She has even more charisma, and possibly just as much, if not more crossover appeal," he wrote. "The outspoken champion of the UFC's Women's Bantamweight Division has dominated her competition in the octagon."

Ronda Rousey has allowed only one opponent in 10 fights to last past the first round so she's clearly a dominant force in the women's MMA, the site said.

But he said there's something in the Gina Carano UFC deal, especially if she is matched against Ronda Rousey, from the marketing standpoint because the former can still draw some fans.

"However, part of marketing Women's MMA is building up current fighters into legitimate contenders. By living five years in the past, and booking a contest that will not be competitive even in the slightest, it would appear that the UFC would be setting themselves up for a stone age movement," he added.
