The box office numbers from early screenings of "Ouija" and "John Wick" have arrived and so far the weekend looks as though it is going to belong to the Hasbro game board based horror movie. It's slightly odd that these are the results considering that "Ouija" is currently receiving quite negative ratings from critics while Keanu Reeves in "John Wick" is getting positive reviews.

Los Angeles Times movie critic Robert Abele found "Ouija" to be particularly un-scary.

"'Ouija' is a tie-in fright flick only a group of toy and movie executives could summon from around a conference table, a blah imitation of PG-13 haunted house movies like 'Paranormal Activity' and 'Insidious'," said Abele.

Although critics reviews do not usually influence box office results, in the case of "Ouija," it seems a bit odd since the reviews have been strongly negative. But then again, as the horror movie released just before Halloween, it seems that audiences looking for horror thrills will have to settle for that or this month's earlier release, "Annabelle." In addition, the cast includes some teen stars from TV that have been garnering a lot of interest including "Bates Motel" actress Olivia Cooke, and "Teen Wolf" actress Shelley Hennig.

The early Thursday numbers for "Ouija" according to Box Office Pro are $911K which is reportedly under the opening of horror film "Annabelle." Their latest update projects the film to take in $19-20 million by the end of the weekend.

Keanu Reeves in "John Wick" came in slightly under "Ouija" with $870K and is on track for a $14 million take this weekend. "The Matrix" star can however boast that "John Wick" is currently getting very positive reviews, including a certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

There's still two days left in the weekend, but based on these results it appears that "Ouija" will take the box office weekend over Keanu Reeves in "John Wick."
