Maria Sharapova and her boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov failed to win big in 2014. At least they have each other to turn to for support! Maria Sharapova’s campaign to steal world number 1 WTA ranking from Serena Williams was foiled at the WTA tournaments and Grigor Dimitrov, Baby Fed, lost to the real Roger Federer at Swiss Open, his ranking falling to 11th place. Let’s hope that their dip in the performance won’t drive their relationship apart!

Maria Sharapova had been working hard to to snatch world number 1 WTA ranking from Serena Williams in 2014, but that plan was spoiled at the WTA Finals. She remains world number 2.

"I got the job done," said the Roland Garros 2014 champion according to BBC. "I know I'm not moving forward, but I'm proud of that effort and to finish the year off on this way.

"I will not be chasing the number one ranking next season. I think adding more Grand Slams is the top priority."

That’s one way to spin a disappointing season!

Her boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov didn’t end the 2014 on a high note either. He reached his all-time high ranking back in April, climbing as high as 8th place on the ATP tour. However, failing to reach the finals in various tournaments this year meant that the Baby Fed couldn’t hold onto his top 10 ranking.

Most recently at the Swiss Open, he lost to Roger Federer in the quarterfinals. Grigor Dimitrov ended the year in the 11th place.

Meanwhile, it looks like things are as good as ever for Serena Williams. She may have failed to seduce Grigor Dimitrov back in 2013, an old feud that made her rivalry with Maria Sharapova even more intense, but the American remains one of the best female tennis player in the Open Era.
