According to the official press release, "For their Quickfire Challenge, the Cheftestants visit the bar where everybody knows your name, Cheers, where they must create a tasty bar snack for special guest judge George Wendt, the actor who played Norm on the hit TV show. Then, Top Chef Masters alum Michael Schlow welcomes the chefs to his Italian restaurant, Via Matta, for the Elimination Challenge where the chefs must work in teams to write and create a three-course Italian menu. The team whose menu is ordered the most wins while everyone else is up for a double elimination! Joining the judges is actress Emmy Rossum, star of Shameless, who throws the chefs for a loop when they must make last minute adjustments to accommodate Emmy's gluten-free diet."

"The Top Chef Boston contestants are thrown for a serious loop in Wednesday night's episode when guest judge Emmy Rossum joins the panel. The Shameless actress sits down to dine with this season's judges - former Top Chef winner Richard Blais, Padma Lakshmi and Tom Colicchio - for the elimination challenge, which requires chefs to work in teams to write and create a three-course Italian menu in Top Chef Masters alum Michael Schlow's restaurant Via Matta. The chefs have planned an assortment of dishes including scallops, salad and, of course, pasta, but - wait for it - Rossum is a gluten-free eater. When Lakshmi adds that this will be a "good test for the chefs," Rossum confesses she feels bad, since they are required to do a pasta course," explains People.

Hidden Remote adds, "When most people travel to Boston they want to see all of the important sights. There's Faneuil Hall, the Boston Common, Old North Church, and many more. Somehow though the original Cheers bar always makes the list alongside some of the most important locations in the history of the country. Tonight's all new episode of Top Chef celebrates the place where everybody knows your name in a Quickfire Challenge featuring George Wendt, aka Norm. The episode, titled 12 Chefs Walk Into a Bar..., challenges the chefs to make their own original take on bar food. The celebrity guests don't let up when the chefs move on to the Elimination Challenge. Shameless star Emmy Rossum is the guest judge for an Italian themed challenge, and to make matters worse she's gluten-free. Gluten is an important part of any Italian dish, and now the chefs will have to think on their toes to make the dish tasty and fulfill the dietary restrictions."
