Apple RED Campaign Launched To Raise Money In The Fight Against HIV/AIDS: Two Week Fundraiser Will Run Across App, Retail, And Online Stores; All Proceeds Donated To The Global Fund [PHOTO]

This Monday, Apple is launching a massive two-week campaign that will have it glowing (RED) for the holidays. According to USA Today, the tech giant is launching a fundraiser and teaming up with the charity RED to help fight against HIV/AIDS that will involve its app store, retail locations, and online stores.

TIME reports that all proceeds will be donated to the Global Fund and will be used in providing antiretroviral drugs and treatment to those suffering from AIDS. For those that don't know much about the RED charity, RED's mission to rid the world of HIV/AIDS began in 2006 by the singer Bono. The charity focuses on providing antiretroviral treatment for a primarily African population.

Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of software and services, stated, "We've been involved with (RED) from the beginning and have raised $75 million, but we were convinced there was an opportunity to get people to rediscover this cause...This time, it was about getting developers deeply involved. It couldn't just be veneer," conveying Apple's newfound dedication to the cause.

Apple has recruited 25 top app-makers to take part in the campaign, and they are to modify parts of their products to include new RED-themed features. For example, players of "Clash of Clans" can unlock RED gems, or "FIFA 15 Ultimate Team" players can partake in a RED tournament.

According to TIME, the fundraiser will run from November 28 to December 7, and customers who purchase any one of the 25 involved apps will see the money put towards the apps donated to charity. On December 1, Apple will donate a large portion of all in-store and online purchases to the cause.

RED CEO Deborah Dugan stated, "This campaign is certainly something that could cause other companies to step up. And we need to keep the heat on (HIV/AIDS) or we'll slip back to where we were."
