Jessica Chastain Talks Continuing Robin Williams’ Legacy, Reveals Her Own Anxiety Over Celebrity

Jessica Chastain has become one of the most acclaimed actresses over the past few years.

However, in the January issue of InStyle magazine, which features her on the cover, Chastain revealed that her main goal in acting is to be seen as a professional, not a celebrity. The Oscar-winner also discussed how Robin Williams helped start her career, although she never met him.

"My favorite thing is the world is acting, and I want to be seen as a professional," said 37-year-old Chastain in the interview. "I don't have a lifestyle website. I'm not interested in the fame of being a personality. Some people are, and they love it, and that's great for them. But the whole anxiety I had in 2011 was about not wanting to be in a room and have everyone stop and look."

As movie-goers know, 2011 was a career-changing year for Chastain. The actress reportedly struggled for seven years to truly break into the film industry. However, when six of her films came out in 2011, including "The Help," for which she earned her first Academy Award nomination, and "Tree Of Life" with Brad Pitt, suddenly the world knew her name and face.

"I knew the second Brad signed on it was a game changer for my career," said Chastain. "Then I was just scared that I was going to get fired. It wasn't until after a week of shooting that I started to relax."

The actress also admitted to having anxiety over the idea of being recognized as a celebrity due to her love of acting.

"I'm sure if Angelina Jolie were sitting here, it would be a very different experience," she told the interviewer at the restaurant where the chat was being conducted. "Because you would have 30 people who are not paying attention to their breakfast companions and are instead staring at her, and that definitely is an extreme. That, for me, would be terrible."

Chastain also talked about receiving the Robin Williams Scholarship, which allowed her to attend the Juilliard School to pursue her dream of becoming an actor. After Williams' suicide this year, Chastain hopes that she can contribute to keeping the legendary actor's legacy alive.

"I always thought in some way I would have a chance to pay him back," she admitted. "It was a very strange thing to have never met him. I didn't want to be stalkerish, but then you always question yourself: Did I do enough? I'm hoping there's a way to continue his legacy and keep the scholarship going."
