Funimation To Follow Crunchyroll In Offering Anime To Multiple Countries, Representative Tweets That Company Is ‘Working On Expanding Territories For Digital Content In 2015'

It is ultimately a good time to be interested in anime as it is much more widely available than it ever was previously. Gone are the days of Newtype anime preview DVDs and then lamenting that the series may never find a home outside of Japan.

Well, at least gone are the days of Newtype USA.

The latest expansion in terms of availability of Japanese animation comes in the form of an announcement from Funimation. Recently the company announced that they will be following in the footsteps of Crunchyroll and are seeking to expand the territories they provide digital content for.

Fans who are excited by the new information regarding Funimation's moves toward expanded territory have Robert Mullarkey on Twitter to thank, as it was his Tweet that warranted the news:

The official Funimation Help Twitter responded to his request for streaming in the UK with the following: "We are working on expanding our territories for digital content in 2015. Keep posted for updates!"

This news comes after Funimation slated a rather large amount of new anime to stream for the upcoming Winter 2015 season. Anime News Network reports that Funimation will be streaming "Assassination Classroom," "Tokyo Ghoul" season two, "Fairy Tail," "Shonen Hollywood," "One Piece," "Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!," "Yuri Kuma Arashi," "Kamisama Kiss" season two, and more.

Funimation will however be more directly competing with Crunchyroll for fans with expansion as Crunchyroll currently has broadcast rights for quite a few different territories for some of the hottest anime. Fans in the ANN forum however largely view this creation of competition as a positive thing - even if it leads to having to purchase two separate subscriptions.

Funimation defines their company as follows: "FUNimation® Entertainment is the leading anime company in North America. FUNimation has a proven formula for launching and advancing brands. We manage a full spectrum of rights for most of our brands including broadcasting, licensing, production, internet, and home video sales and distribution."
