Today marks another new episode of "Tokyo Ghoul: Root A" or "Tokyo Ghoul" season two. Episode 5 entitled "Rift" was simultaneously streamed to fans outside of Japan thanks to Funimation. For those without subscriptions however, below are links to websites where episodes of "Tokyo Ghoul" are available to stream for free online.

This week's episode begins with a flashback to the days in which Nashiro, Shizuku, and Kurona hear a lecture from Detective Amon. Later on, Shizuku dies and Nashiro and Kurona run into Rei at her gravesite. Although Rei seems to have lost her mind.

This somewhat explains the stakes behind a battle between Rei, Nashiro, and Kurona that began in last week's episode. Rei holds his own against the new ghoul versions of Nashiro and Kurona. Meanwhile, Ayato continues his own losing battle with Shinohara. Rei ultimately hurts Nashiro so that Kurona can suffer while watching her die. Rei questions why they would ever want to become ghouls.

Cochlea is virtually destroyed in terms of the guards. Hoji and Takizawa enter the aftermath and find themselves of a piece of the action facing Noro. Back with Ayato, he's ultimately down on the ground, about to be cut down. Ayato is suddenly transported back into a memory of his days as a kid with Touka and their Father reading them a bedtime story.

Just as it looks like Ayato is done for, he's saved by Kaneki, but something is wrong with him and he's wearing a different mask. Amon carries Akira and runs into Nashiro and Kurona who have taken shelter in one of the rooms. They quickly escape. CRC gasi is released. Akira assumes that must mean the Aogiri is finished. Kaneki feasts on the guard he's killed to save Ayato. Amon spots him and demands to know why he was let go.

But then the One-Eyed Owl appears just as Kaneki cries that he doesn't want to eat anymore. The owl grabs Ayato and Kaneki and flies out of Cochlea.
